After having seen the THV Patricia passing distantly off Sunderland in the last year, it was good to get a better view of the ship off Whitby. In this case, it was restoring a buoy to mark the entrance to Whitby harbour.

The lighthouse maintenance vessel 'THV Patricia' made another journey past Sunderland recently. The previous few days it had carried out work on buoys around Holy Island in the north of Northumberland. The next stop was stop was Saltscar buoy off Redcar in Cleveland. Unfortunately only a distant view of a unique visitor off Sunderland. The THV Patricia is the flag ship of Trinity House, the body responsible for maintaining the lighthouses and other aids to navigation around the coast of Britain. In service since 1982, the ship has a helideck as well as a crane on the foredeck.
