Southern Ocean

The large multi-purpose offshore vessel (MPOV) in the Wear channel off Greenwells Quay. The orange and blue colour scheme certainly made it a colourful visitor to Sunderland! PIP #1: Detailing of the ship's name on the helicopter deck. PIP #2: The Southern Ocean passing Greenwells Quay.

Ndeavor

An overnight arrival, the cable laying ship Ndeavor spent only a few hours in Sunderland before departing again. What is not so obvious from this angle is that this was an amazingly wide ship for the length of the vessel (100 x 30 metres). By comparison, a standard small cargo ship such as the Lady Dawn has a length/width of 100 x 13 metres.
