The National Glass centre in Sunderland. Unfortunately the building was damaged in a storm in late October 2023 and the river walk has been closed since then. Similarly, the always popular restaurant and shop have not been open. This comes on top of various defects found in the building last year which have put the future of the centre in doubt. The front of the National Glass Centre illuminated at night. This picture was taken shortly after the removal of a large number of iron panels that had hung in front of the building. The Glass Centre hosts an exhibition on glass making in Sunderland, glass sculpting courses, art exhibitions and a very popular café.

The Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle. Built in 1884, the museum hosts a variety of natural history and archaeological exhibits and is free to visit. The exterior of the building has very recently undergone major restoration work. The name commemorates the Victorian-era naturalist brothers John and Albany Hancock. Some of their works can still be seen in the museum, including John Hancock's most famous work, 'The Struggle with the Quarry'.
