L'abbaye d'Einsiedeln a été construite au 18e siècle sous la forme d'un bâtiment baroque avec quatre cours intérieures. En 835, le moine bénédictin Meinrad avait établi un ermitage sur ce site, puis on y avait construit des édifices romans et gothiques. Dans l'église abbatiale, la chapelle des Grâces en marbre noir abrite la célèbre Vierge Noire du 15e siècle sous une coupole ornée de fresques. Outre les appartements destinés aux moines, l'abbaye comprend une école, dix ateliers, une cave pour le vin de l'abbaye ainsi que des écuries abritant les chevaux élevés par les moines. Einsiedeln Abbey was built in the 18th century as a Baroque building with four interior courtyards. In 835, the Benedictine monk Meinrad established a hermitage on this site, and then Romanesque and Gothic buildings were built there. In the abbey church, the black marble Chapel of Graces houses the famous 15th century Black Madonna under a dome decorated with frescoes. In addition to the apartments intended for the monks, the abbey includes a school, ten workshops, a cellar for the abbey's wine as well as stables housing the horses raised by the monks.
