The Zollverein colliery is located in Essen-Stoppenberg. The mine was operated from 1851 to 1986 and was one of the most modern coal mines in the world at that time. Today, the colliery is a monument of industrial culture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The double winding tower is also called the "Eifel tower" of the Ruhr area.
