This Tuesday's table is on a dining car at the Forney Transportation Museum in Denver, Colorado. Looks very elegant.
Had to take this picture through the car window, so there are some reflections.

Taken the day before we took this train to New Jersey. We were visiting the station to get an idea of the layout, and planning our upcoming train trip.

The switchman has finished setting the switch position. He is climbing aboard the locomotive that is being re-positioned.
The Bailey Yard, located in North Platte, Nebraska, is the largest railroad yard in the world.
Image processed with GIMP. Oh yes, 600mm equivalent zoom telephoto, taken from the observation deck of the Golden Spike Tower (viewing area).

Behind the Museum (HFF)

Taken behind the Union Station museum in Ogden, Utah.
This is a well-used piece of railway equipment, probably awaiting restoration. (Seems to be self-propelled, but I don't know what kind of engine.) Still has the WMRY railway lettering on it.

Track Maintenance Equipment (H.A.N.W.E.)

While waiting for the #4014 to pass, we were entertained by the pass-by of this track maintenance equipment. The level of technology used by the railways is quite remarkable.
This is a Harsco machine, self-propelled by a diesel engine. If you watch the video, you will hear the automobile-like horn as it passes the crossing.

End of Car Carrier Train
11 Sep 2024 |

As is standard, the last car of a train that is not a locomotive, has an identification/monitoring device. The acronym is FRED (older name was flashing rear device).
This side view lets you see how it connects to the air brake system of the train.

4012 Cab at Steamtown
18 Jun 2024 |

We've managed to see a number of the "Big Boy" steam locomotives. Our visit to Steamtown (Scranton, Pennsylvania) adds yet another, #4012.
The locomotive is being maintained quite nicely. You can climb up into the cab, but there are barriers to prevent you from trying to start it up.

End of the Alaska Railroad (HFF)

During our wandering around downtown Fairbanks, Alaska, I came upon this sign, fence, and rails.
We have ridden on the Alaska Railroad, quite an experience. I hadn't given much thought about the beginning and end of this rail line.
