Waterspout Off of Civitavecchia Harbor

04 Jul 2020 27 13 603
We had just arrived onboard the Prinsendam for a Mediterranean cruise, when we saw this waterspout in the distance. Had never seen one before.

Sit and Enjoy the View (HBM)

09 Jun 2020 30 19 781
Taken on the beach near our house on Maui (1999-2008). After retirement, we often walked on the beach at sunrise. Someone had placed a bench for viewing. Image processed with GIMP.

Moon and Clouds as We Approached Sydney Harbor

13 May 2020 10 3 597
As our ship approached Sydney Harbor for a magnificent entry, I saw that the moon was playing with the clouds. This was taken with the Nikon D700, near the entrance to Sydney Harbor. More photos at: swansongrp.com/oz2016/sydney_entrance.html and swansongrp.com/P/p/night_narrative/index.html

Lanai Sunset

05 May 2020 11 8 462
We lived on Maui for 10 years. During that time, we lived in a house facing east. So we saw (and photographed) a lot of sunrises, some of them other-worldly. However, we rarely saw any sunsets on Maui. Many visitors to the island rave about the magnificent views they get on the west side of the island. Well, we DID get a few sunset photos, primarily while visiting friends on the other side. This is a sunset over the island of Lana'i. Some sunrise photos at: swansonphotos.com/picture_gallery.html

Quartzsite Sunset

Taken in Quartzsite, Airzona, while we had our motorhome parked in the desert. We had some beautiful sunsets and evenings.

College Fjord

30 Apr 2020 11 7 601
Taken on our 2007 cruise in Alaska. This is just one sight in College Fjord. The glaciers and mountains are quite spectacular. We later discovered that most of the time, the sun does not shine here, and the fjord is often shrouded in fog and mist.

Grand Canyon Sunset

12 Feb 2020 25 11 861
We were visiting the area, and parked our RV at a National Forest campground near the entrance to the National Park. This setup allowed us to visit the canyon rim at all hours, rather than trying to keep a schedule for a day trip. We got to the rim an hour before sunset, and set up our cameras. We took a large number of photos, while a crowd of visitors closed in on us. Fortunately, our tripods kept the most curious away. I like this image, with deep purple colors on the rock formations, and just a sliver of the last sun's rays. See: swansonphotos.com/arizona

Maui Sunrise

04 Feb 2020 12 6 718
The sun was blasting through the clouds around Haleakala, to spray its crepuscular rays around, while the palm trees swayed in the trade winds. In other words, another beautiful day in Paradise (Maui).

Quartzsite Sunset

26 Jan 2020 5 4 458
The days around this photo op were marred by a lot of clouds in Quartzsite. However, the clouds helped make the sunsets and sunrises quite spectacular. Here are some crepuscular rays, the mountains near Quartzsite, and the clouds lit up. Taken with the Panasonic GX85 and processed with GIMP.
