Rusty Bitt

28 Jun 2024 9 4 187
Taken in Auckland Harbour. This bitt was apparently installed in 1952. The rust color looks very interesting. Image processed with GIMP.

Fence, Tortola (HFF)

05 Jan 2024 26 18 330
It's always interesting to look around the back of any fancy development, to see what is really going on. Just behind the very nice, recently-constructed tourist buildings at the Tortola port, there is a different story to see. Trash among the weeds, rust on the fence, etc. However, at least they had put holiday lights on the fence, for the upcoming Christmas celebration. Image processed with GIMP.

Wreck

20 Jul 2023 35 14 482
This shipwreck remains as a silent warning to watch where you are going. This was taken in the Chilean Fjords. The crew took a wrong turn, and that was that. This location is so isolated, that it would cost too much to salvage the wreck. Time has turned it into a hulk of rust. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Riverside_(APA-102) Image processed with GIMP.

Rusty Chains, South Georgia Island

07 Jun 2022 27 10 394
These chains were used in the whaling factory on South Georgia. That area is now being converted to an environmental display. We visited South Georgia on our 2008 cruise, one of the very few full-sized cruise ships allowed to stop there. (Most of the ships that come in are the small, adventure type ships.) It was the equivalent of August in the Southern Hemisphere, and it was snowing the whole time that we were visiting.

Carpark Sign (Orange Thursdays)

07 Apr 2022 6 2 475
This naturally-rusted sign was for a carpark where we stopped on our tour of Christchurch, New Zealand. This very scenic area is south of Christchurch on Summit Road. Image processed with GIMP

Rusty Bell (BW)

02 Aug 2020 22 9 850
Taken at the Utah State Railroad Museum in Ogden, Utah, in 2014. This is the bell on a diesel locomotive. They had to put the bells lower down on these, unlike steam locomotives where the bell was right on the front on top. I converted the image to monochrome using GIMP.
