For my first walk out in the real world in nearly 2 months, I had intended to go to a favorite nearby park, but found it was still closed. So I wandered around the neighbourhood and this scene in a narrow alley caught my eye. I tried to tell the child I really liked their laundry line but s/he went to get the father who could speak Italian. The father laughed, told me it was a challenge to keep kids entertained indoors and graciously granted permission to take the photo.

My grandma lived on the third floor of an old building and used one of these to retrieve mail and other stuff without risking the treacherous stairs. We repurposed this time tried technique and have been using it to minimize close contact, in order to protect both ourselves and all the people out there who have continued to provide essential services, like postal workers and civil protection volunteers delivering our weekly allotment of masks, from the risk of contagion.
The light streaming in from the window and the colorfulness got me to go for my camera and I thought the result was interesting enough to share.

This is our third weekend in the StayHome era and I think I need to count my blessings: 1. I have a garden, not a big one and rather unkempt, but a place to get some fresh air, exercise (and photo ops!); 2. I have always enjoyed cooking and these days the simple pleasures of home cooking are an important source of comfort. It takes my husband up to 50 minutes in line to go grocery shopping, so this colorful bunch of produce struck me as being not only beautiful but downright "precious". I look at them and think back to my mom's wartime stories, where she would ride her bike for 30 + kilometres to get a single egg. We are definitely not to that point, but still, all of a sudden, I find this wealth of fruit and veggies movingly beautiful.
