Looking for a road that would let me explore the left bank of the Arno river, I got lost in a maze of narrow side roads, most with walls on both sides protecting the privacy of well to do estates and interrupted here and there by custom made gates in various styles and tastes. The afternoon shadows were interesting though. In the main image shadows of trees, wall and gate seemed to form interesting lines and designs. In the first Pip the gate that produced the shadow and in the second Pip another take on the shadows of a border wall and trees on the opposite wall. Can you find me in one of the photos? The City Neighborhood Council building in Via Torta, with wrought iron window grates casting shadows in the late morning. Via Torta (in the Tuscan parlance, "Crooked Street") is named for its snake-like lay out and unusual rounded buildings. In the pip: a lady from the neighborhood walks home with her shopping. The open gate at the garden restaurant within the park. I liked the lines, colors and the shadows. For once, I even liked the inclusion of the photographer's shadow on the lower right :) I have had a smartphone only for a few weeks and this is one of my first attempts with smartphone photography. I still prefer my camera, but if you didn't bring it along, it's a pretty handy substitute, I must say (except that I have had to put in by hand the date it was actually taken. Maybe I just haven't figured out yet how to set my phone to show correct metadata.) In the Pip, the just opened garden restaurant waiting for customers in the evening light. This time of year last year it would have been already packed with early diners. Now customers are few and tables well distanced to comply with anti-covid19 measures. Happy Fence Friday to all!

Arm in arm, an elderly couple crosses the Arno River on the tram bridge to reach the Cascine Park, while the evening sun casts shadows on the pedestrian walkway.

The afternoon sun, filtering through the canopy of one of our trees, paints fantastic shapes on our wall. I saw a bouquet of flowers in the shadowy shapes, but I like Judite's "reading" of the image as a flight of swallows (see her comment below) far better! I thought that with a little help from the sunlight even my commonplace garden fence could be made a bit more interesting. So, here's looking through the garden fence at new ivy shoots on my neighbour's tree and a grid of fence shadows. In the PIP just another angle, obtained by sticking the nose of my camera through the fence. Coronavirus or not, have a Happy Fence Friday, everybody!
