Blea Tarn, another popular location amongst landscape photographers! A small mountain tarn in a hanging valley between Little Langdale and Great Langdale, Blea Tarn offers a large variety of photographic opportunities, not only from the tarn itself but also from up on top of the surrounding fells.

Blea Tarn is one of the prettiest of those waters and it is a photographer’s dream. Its small size and sheltered situation mean that the lake is often still and therefore perfect for capturing reflections of the surrounding Lakeland features.

The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel (the last before the head of the valley) is the original Langdale Hotel and pub a classic walking and climbing haven. All the main Langdale Valley peaks can be accessed from the Old Dungeon Ghyll My favorite valley and pub with a walkers and climbers bar I have been coming here over 60 years and its never changed .

The start of my walk to climb Bow Fell. The Great Langdale valley is some 12,170 acres, much of it in the care of the National Trust, who have ten farms here. The valley stretches from Ambleside through Clappersgate, Skelwith bridge, Elterwater, Chapel Stile, to the Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, and the glaciated valley of Mickleden.

Elterwater is a village in the English Lake District and the county of Cumbria. The village lies half a mile north-west of the lake of Elter Water, from which it derives its name. Both are situated in the valley of Great Langdale. Elterwater Bridge is a Grade II listed structure dating to at least the 18th century.
