I could tell by looking at this building that it predated the Civil War at the very least, as Neo-Classical architecture of several American styles was generally in style from the Revolution until then. I was quite surprised, however, to find out that it dates to 1791, making it one of the oldest buildings in Saratoga, but GigiSaratoga (on Flickr) has now informed me that this building is really from 1856. As an institution, though, this was the first church to be established in town (umm...unless I'm misinterpreting what I'm being told).

This church was built in 1871, and was restored in 2007, winning several awards in the process. It is primarily a concert venue today, however, as I noticed when I visited. This is one of the other well-preserved buildings in Saratoga.

Although several historic buildings of note survive in Saratoga, this one is probably my favorite, is it is the most dated and the most unusual to see still standing in the U.S. Most of these burned down or were abandoned and torn down during the 1960's-1990's, and many are still under threat. This hotel, built in 1877 for people visiting the supposedly therapeutic Saratoga Springs, still hosts all manner of tourists....in the summertime. When I visited, it had closed for the winter.

This shot took some careful editing, as the delivery van (or whatever it is) in the foreground kept looking like it was a painting unless I balanced the sliders just right. I'm still not 100% satisfied, and I may edit this shot yet again.

Looking at my Saratoga photos after uploading, I was almost immediately dissatisfied with how they looked on Flickr, as the colors simply wouldn't display properly in spite of the face that my prints (from a photolab and not from Flickr) were fine. Therefore, although it's backtracking and delaying my catchup to the present, I decided to put them in Gimp again and edit them for improved color. This is the first one.

I also got out of the car at a rest stop and took some photos of the trees. Unfortunately, I didn't note which rest stop it was, but it was on I-90 in the Mohawk Valley.

Even when I was doing shots divided between sky and ground, the exposure was much more balanced than usual.

Apparently the camera was spot metering just right on this particular day....

I also had better luck than usual getting the colors to come out. It's odd, since I was just using my Nikon N80, with the same old 35-50mm zoom lens the Kodacolor Gold 200 film.

Unusually, I was able to get some Fall foliage shots in New York this past year, since I made an extra trip to NY earlier than Christmas.
