CD Class 749 Diesel at Luzna u Rakovnika, Bohemia…

Next to the interlocking is this battered (but apparently crudely repainted) CD Class 749 diesel. The CD number has been removed, and the old CSD number reinstalled on the side, although I don't have a picture of the number handy right now. This locomotive is also at the entrance to the Ceske Drahy Muzeum, off to the left in this picture, where I shot many, many pictures both with my cameraphone and with my Nikon (the next day), and my cameraphone shots are going to be posted here. My Ektachromes from the Nikon will eventually find their way into an NRHS show, I hope.

Many branchline services in the Czech Republic are run by Class 749 diesels, which are if anything overkill for the job. They have about 1103kw of power, or about 1479 horsepower, and can run about 100Km/h at maximum speed. The horsepower isn't high for a freight locomotive, and if anything isn't enough, but for hauling only two bi-level coaches at slow speed it's quite a lot.

CD #749006-3 at Praha Hlavni Nadrazi, Prague, CZ,…

Here my train is waiting to leave Hlavni Nadrazi on the first leg of my trip to Litomerice, mostly on advice on my Lonely Planet guidebook. I've been trying to check off the more important historic cities and attractions in the Czech Republic, one by one, and because I was starting to run out of ideas I decided to do some research. This first connection to Vsetaty would actually take me through unelectrified territory, so that's why we ended with with a Class 749 diesel.
