Old Linka 011, Picture 7, Prague, CZ, 2010

03 Aug 2010 304
This is as far as I hiked on this trip, as far as Cajirna nad Vokem, a tea house that now has an entrance on the ex-rail line. I don't know if it predates the conversion of the line, but now it is well integrated with it.

Steps by Old Linka 011, Prague, CZ, 2010

This is a concrete staircase that I'm fairly sure is of new construction, that helps hikers and bikers on the old Linka 011 bike trail to climb further up Vitkov (or whatever mountain this is).

Old Linka 011, Picture 4, Prague, CZ, 2010

This is one of the bridges on the old line, crossing Husitska, which if I'm not mistaken I saw trins running over in my early years of living in Prague. For that matter, I'm fairly certain that I've been over it many times on trains.

Hi-Rail Ditch Digger On Old Linka 011, Prague, CZ,…

03 Aug 2010 414
For some reason, this hi-rail ditch digger has been parked here on the old line for some time, in spite of the fact that a regular ditch digger will now do. I don't know how long it's been here, but it's clearly not abandoned.

Old Linka 011, Prague, CZ, 2010

This is the first serious photo of my walking tour of the old mainline "Linka 011," or the Prague connection to it via the East throat of Hlavni Nadrazi, which was recently, and very quickly, converted to a bike and hiking trail. Actually, the trail is so new that Google Earth still shows this line as it was before conversion. I formerly listed this as Linka 171 by mistake. 171 is actually for westbound traffic, whereas this line is for eastbound traffic towards Kolin, Poricany, Pardubice, and so on. I'm fairly certain also, given my travels, that I was over this line many times in its last years of operation, which might make it the first rail line that I rode prior to abandonment, unless the abandonment of the old DL&W Utica-Chenango Forks pre-dates it. They were both abandoned around the same time, although the DL&W was only abandoned Norwich-Chenango Forks (unless I'm mistaken). I've also done a video version of this, shot several weeks later, but I haven't released it either online or on DVD, as it's sort of unpolished. I haven't decided whether I ever will release it, so this photo series will be all for now.

Cycle Route Sign in Kunraticky Les, Prague, CZ, 20…

This is a sign much like a road sign that's actually for cyclists, indicating which route goes where.

Fall Colors in Kunraticky Les, Prague, CZ, 2009

At the time that I made this trip in mid-August, the leaves were already starting to change for Autumn, and they were even falling off already.

Trail To Uhrineves, Milichovsky Les, Haje, Prague,…

10 Nov 2007 479
Here's another shot I took in Milichovsky Les, on the same trail that I took the other Milichov photos posted so far. I jog on this trail now, since discovering it, although I've never gone all the way to Uhrineves, as it's prettier to go to Kreslice, which is also not as far.

Firebugs On Tree, Milichovsky Les, Haje, Prague, C…

These are Pyrrhocoris Apterus....or just uh....Firebugs, one of the most common species of insect in Central Bohemia. These ones are uhhhh....doin stuff. :-) :-) :-) Bugs don't count, though (do they?), so if Flickr makes a stink about this it would be very amusing. :-) If they throw me off for this one I'm not sure if I'll care. I took this in Milichovsky Les in Haje, Prague.

Firebug, Milichovsky Les, Haje, Prague, CZ, 2007

10 Nov 2007 466
Here's a detailed, if a bit overexposed, shot of a Pyrrhocoris Apterus (Firebug), taken on a stone bridge (I think) in Milichovsky Les in Haje, Prague. If I had had a proper Macro lens, as opposed to a macro zoom, I probably could have got a better shot, but I'm not going to worry about it.

Sidliste Haje From Milichovsky Rybnik, Haje, Pragu…

This is a rybnik, or pond, that borders Milichovsky Les and Sidliste Haje, and gives you a contrast between these two parts of Prague.

Cabin In Milichovsky Les, Haje, Prague, CZ, 2007

10 Nov 2007 569
Milichovsky Les is so much more rural than Sidliste Haje that I even found this cabin there. I have no idea who owns it, but it looks perfectly suitable as a cabin if you can ignore the sound of cars coming in and out of Haje a few hundred meters away.

Milichovsky Les Park Signs, Haje, Prague, CZ, 2007

10 Nov 2007 507
Just south of Sidliste Haje, at the southern border of the city, is this park, Milichovsky Les, which provides a striking contrast to Sidliste Haje. The trees mostly hide the Panelaks of the Sidliste, so that you would never know where you are if you didn't know the area. Notice that Kreslice, the nearest town to this part of Prague (although some maps consider it part of Praha 11, the street signs indicate that it's seperate, so I don't know who's really right), is only 2 Km. away. I don't know anything about Pitkovice, but Uhrineves is indisputably part of Prague.

Trail to Stepanka, Liberecky Kraj, Bohemia(CZ), 20…

05 Nov 2007 336
Here's the trail up the mountain to Stepanka. It was massively steep, even if it isn't obvious here. Imagine yourself looking way up this path, as opposed to down it, with your neck craned back, and then you have some idea.
