This was actually supposed to be uploaded with the other Malmo shots, but I discovered today that it was missing, meaning that I forgot it. :-) Hope you like it.

Windmill, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

The windmill is also near the castle, just as in Copenhagen, and again I don't really know what its intended purpose was. Again, I need a history lesson if anyone has the time! :-)

Tram Tracks, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

22 Dec 2007 379
I was a bit surprised to see this tram tracks just tucked away in an out of the way neighborhood adjoining Malmohus castle. I'm not aware of whether they're part of a limited tram system, a local industrial railway, or a tram museum, but in any case they're quite interesting, I think.

Twisting Torso, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

22 Dec 2007 370
The skyscraper in the back is called the "Twisting Torso," and is actually nothing less mundane than an apartment block, although it's the second highest one in Europe after the Triumph-Palace in Moscow. Completed in 2005, it was designed by Santiago Calatrava, and based on a sculpture by Calatrava that the building's contractor (and ultimately backer) saw in 1999. An interesting story, to be sure.

Malmohus Castle, Picture 6, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Here's another look at the various fortifications, with the gunports and other not-so-medieval features.

Malmohus Castle, Picture 3, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Here's the inside of the castle wall in Malmo, which is really more of an ordinary (office? government?) building, albeit an old one. This arrangement is not dissimilar to many castles in the Czech Republic, actually.

Here's the plaque on Malmo castle.

Malmohus Castle, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

22 Dec 2007 1 1 349
Built in the 1530s on the foundations of an earlier castle dating to 1434, Malmohus Castle was quite modern for its day, having gunports for cannon and other then-new weapons. Construction was started on the orders of King Christian III of Denmark, as Denmark controlled this part of Sweden at the time. A short wiki is available here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malm%C3%B6hus_Castle

"Skola For Flicker," Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Ha, ha, ha. :-)

Stadsbibliothek (City Library), Picture 2, Malmo,…

I just thought this building looked really cool. I didn't really have any other reason for taking this.

Fountain In Park, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

22 Dec 2007 258
I thought this was an interesting oddity, even if its not one of the better known attractions of Malmo. This was an artificial cave in a park with a fountain in it.....maybe it was more interesting in real life. :-)

17th Century House, Picture 2, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Here you can at least see the street signs, showing that it's on the corner of Hjulhamnsgatan and Larochegutan.

I also spotted a photo of this in Wikipedia, but not much more information was given. If anyone has information on it, that would be really cool.

Square, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Does anybody know the name of this square? Otherwise, my title is just going to sound stupid. :-)

X2000 Tilt Train In Malmo Station, Malmo, Sweden,…

Amtrak also tested the X2000 tilt train, and everybody agrees that it was the inspiration for the Acela Express which came about eight years later. The Acela Express, while it still runs today, has been a technical disaster from the start, as nearly all of the engineering lessons gleaned from the X2000 testing were ignored. The X2000, however, is superb, and one of my regrets this trip was that I didn't get a chance to ride it.

Malmo Station, Picture 4, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Here's the exterior of Malmo station. It certainly has some nice touches to it, even if it isn't as ornate as say, Washington Union or London St. Pancras.

Malmo Station, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

Amtrak, in the national passenger service in the U.S., once tested a train very similar to these called the "Big Kiss," although the experiment didn't result in any serious use in the U.S. DSB have a sizeable fleet of trains like these, and a number of them even work international services, like these.

Sidings, Malmo, Sweden, 2007

I'm not sure of what class these EMUs are, but when I have time, hopefully this Christmas Break, I'll look it up.
