Sunset Over Nadrazi Most, Edited Version, Most, Us…

15 Nov 2011 295
I'd still like to fiddle with this shot in Gimp a bit more, as I feel the colors could be a lot more brilliant. This was the last film shot I took on my Karlovy Vary trip before the sun went down.....at almost 9:00 p.m. Yeah, no kidding. It stayed light very, very late.

Here's an alternate shot that I liked better, with a mixed freight in the background. Indeed, Most yard hosts passenger trains, coal trains, and mixed freights.

MUS Coal Train in Most, Picture 2, Edited Version,…

15 Nov 2011 273
This coal train, headed by a Class 127 electric locomotive, is dedicated soley to the MUS mining railway. The 127 Class is exclusive to this line and the SU mining railway in Sokolova, as it runs on 1,500v DC current, and is dedicated solely to heavy freight service, with a maximum speed of only 65Km/h (40 m.p.h.). Power is surprisingly low, at only 2,937 horsepower (2,190Kw). This rail line carries lignite from the surrounding mines, which are among the only coal mines still active in Bohemia. They've been so active historically, in fact, that numerous towns and villages, and even the city centre of Most, have been destroyed by strip mining and subsidence. The world record was set for the largest building relocated on wheels, when the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was moved from the original Most centre to the new one in 1975. Fall Colors, Nuselsky Most, Vysehrad, Prague, CZ,…

02 May 2008 515
I liked the Fall scene that I spotted from the Metro station so much on this particular day that I got off the train. The fog kills some of it, unfortunately, made more unfortunate by the fact that it actually made the scene more impressive in real life, adding to the massive scale of Nuselsky Most.

Prague Bridges From Most Legii, B&W Version, Pragu…

Here's a black and white version.

Prague Bridges From Most Legii, Prague, CZ, 2005

07 Dec 2007 410
I randomly shot this on the way home from my first visit to the Prague Public Transport Museum, and looking at it later I thought it looked quite artistic, even if the bridges aren't as clearly in view as I had hoped. The main problem I see is that sign up in the right corner.

Novy Most, B&W version, Bratislava, Slovakia, 2005

Since the original shot was taken during a snow storm, and very white, I decided that I would try a black and white conversion. I hope you like it. :-)

Novy Most, Bratislava, Slovakia, 2005

Novy Most is an impressive feat of modern engineering, at least in terms of looks. Built over the River Danube in 1967-1972, it was part of a trend towards single-pylon cable-stayed bridges, with another notable one being built in Usti nad Labem (which in those days was part of the same country, Czechoslovakia). The tower on top of the pylon is ranked 26th in the World Federation of towers, being 84.6 meters high.
