The famous Glenwood Canyon on the Colorado River is located immediately to the east of the city of Glenwood Springs. This photo depicts the South Canyon which is a little over 2 miles (4km) below (west) of Glenwood Springs. The river (out of the frame at the right and below the trees), the Union Pacific RR line (below the telephone pole in the center of the frame) and I-70 (curving around the shoulder of Storm King Mountain which intrudes from the left of the frame) all funnel through this passage. The famous Colorado sunshine was largely absent this day, so the tones are muted but nonetheless impressive in a hazy sort of way. View is to the east.
