At the eastern end of the ridge and above the town of La Cabrera. I don't come here so often as it's a long way from my bus back to Madrid at Valdemanco at the western end.

You can see the path below as it zig-zags on its dusty way. This is the slow and not so easy way to get to either the town of La Cabrera or the monastery. Far quicker and easier, imho, is to follow the granite to the right here and join a steeper but less used and therefore less eroded and dusty path, direct down to the monastery.

I'm standing on the (faint) path straight down to the monastery. It is steep and overgrown with brambles in some places, and swept away by heavy rains in others and is not for the faint-hearted. But it is easily the quickest way down from the top (25 minutes). The ascent by this route is another matter! I did it once and it was unpleasant and tricky (although used by seasoned rock climbers to get to their favourite crags in the shortest possible time!). In fact I think this was taken on that walk up. I needed any excuse for a lungfull of oxygen and so taking shots was that excuse!

The scramble along the entire crest of this ridge, or sierra, is great fun. I haven't done it since 2015 for one reason or another but hope to do it again this year

La Sierra de La Cabrera towers above the little town of la Cabrera. The granite ridge itself looks spectacular from the N1 motorway leaving Madrid northwards for Burgos. You can see the motorway in this shot, skirting the town. Normally you see a few Griffon vultures too, but not on this day.
You may have seen this little pebble before!

Sierra de La Cabrera granite and La Cabrera town. Seemingly precarious giant boulder.
It is enormous but is it secure?

From the ridge looking down onto the town of La Cabrera. Granite scenery.
I waited ages to get some vultures in view but not that day, alas! I had to move on as eventually I had to catch my bus back to Madrid!

Above the town of La Cabrera. Terrific walking and scrambling country on granite with its terrific friction. Haunt of vultures.
