A bit of a shock if your carriage pulls up alongside this oversized print of Hans Holbein The Younger's Henry VIII on the Madrid metro. Totally unexpected! Between 2011 and 2013 I used this metro station up to 8 times a day. I probably knew it better than any station in the UK including Pinner station on the Metropolitan Line, London. And that is a statement I never thought I would make in a month of Sundays! The train is going INTO the tunnel. Cars drive on the right in Madrid as you would expect but metro trains do the opposite, as in London! I tried to find out why and read that it was for 'historic reasons'!
