My sister sent me this shot today from Spain..

Front garden. Most of the rose bushes spent themselves out by the end of May, but a few hardy souls braved the Saharan summer and decided to have another go, and this yellow rose is a delightful one with a magical scent!

A week or two later than last year but then winter did hang around much longer this year. UPDATE; for those who asked what variety of rose this is, I had forgotten that I DID find out last year, just before I was struck down with Covid and I have tended to forget knowledge acquired just before then. The name of the rose is ALFRED SISLEY..

An earlier visit to the rose garden of the Retiro park in Madrid was just that; early! (One month before the other rose shots on this page, but in past years, about the best time for roses here - this season has been very strange). I took a couple of shots of the new growth.

El Retiro Park rose garden. Checking out my new mobile phone. It does these far better than my old one! Again, after we left the park, torrential rain destroyed the piece of paper in my pocket with this rose's name on it.

I was a week or two too early (as is the way everywhere this Spring it would seem), and only the occasional rose was showing itself.
