This must be a first, a portrait here on Ipernity taken by me. The location is one of my favorites; The Oslo Opera Roof. A hot spot for taking pictures in Oslo.
I hope you enjoy.

Easter? Just a coincidence I am afraid. This is a new smartphone image and I hope you like it.
It seems that lately more monochrome photographes make it to Explore, that's cool...

A winter impression.
My friend Chatbot wishes that I upload some newer work.
But I did not take many pictures lately. However I found some images on my smartphone.
These are taken and edited on this phone and the quality is not that good I 'm afraid.
In the spirit of HFF, have a nice one everyone...

Bowl

A detail from Minnehallen in Stavern, Norway. Outside this monument two bowls 'guard' the entrence. The memorial was commissioned by the Norwegian Parliament after World War I to commemorate the fallen Norwegian sailors of the war. It was unveiled by King Haakon VII and was later converted to the national monument commemorating fallen sailors of both World War I and World War II. The monument itself is a pyramid of locally quarried rock and is designed by two architects from Oslo, Andreas Hesselberg Bjercke (1883-1967) and Georg Christen Eliassen (1880-1964).

A detail that I took earlier this year. Mechanics that made life easier for people at a certain time. It makes you think about progress, it makes you think about where it all will end....It made me think about Chaplin's last silent film 'Modern Times', the 'Factory' scene.

A northern Norwegian winter impression from 2014. Often a long lasting winter that provides cool photo opportunities. Here you see the rock island Håja that was the inspiration for the Arctic Cathedral in Tromsdalen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Cathedral

During nordic winter time the blue hour can be magical. The time between light and darkness can produce photographic gems. But as you see, I am still in my monochrome period... Enjoy the weekend.

Pyramid

Oh yes, there is a pyramid in Norway too. Who would have thougt that...
But in fact this is a monument i Stavern.
Wikipedia tells us the following: Minnehallen or Hall of Remembrance is a national memorial located outside Stavern in Larvik, Vestfold, Norway.
Nic Schiøll has made a relief describing the lives and fate of the sailors as well as a decoration in the crypt. Copper tablets display the names of 1,892 sailors who died during World War I and 3,456 names of sailors who died in World War II. In addition, three protocols contain the names of 5,667 sailors. The interior of the hall is visited by some 20,000 people every year.

1928

Well, this is anno 1928.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Krossobanen is an aerial tramway in Rjukan, Norway, and was the first of its kind in Northern Europe. It was built in 1928 by Bleichert as a gift from Norsk Hydro to the people of Rjukan (most of them Hydro employees), offering them a view of the sun which is obscured by the surrounding mountains during the winter months from October to March.
The horizontal distance between the lower and the upper station is 814 meters and the difference in altitude is 495 meters, which yields an average incline of 0.6: 1 (in other words, it climbs 60 centimeters for each meter traveled).

Vardø Street Art
13 Oct 2017 |
|
|
|
In july 2012, Vardø hosted the world's most northern street art festival, curated by the artist Pøbel - KOMAFEST -. The purpose was to conceptualize the depopulation of northern Norway. Three years later I tried to capture this art. At least most of the work. Some were already painted over and some I just did not find.

Decay into Emptiness

This is a typical view on the tundra (vidda) in the nordic countries. Snow fences in need of some maintenance. The monochrome edit makes the atmosphere fitting to the lonely feeling one can get here. The climate in the winter can be quite fierce
This picture is taken near the border of Norway and Finland.

Vastness

I finally decided to give Ipernity a chance. For a long time I was not sure. After the closing down of Panoramio I did not want to waste time and effort. But ok, here I am again with a winterly scene in monochrome. Not really fine photo- technical quality. However this picture represents a bit of northern Norwegian nature. The vastness of nature makes man almost disappear. But can you imagine what a blast these guys have...
