This was one of the few orchids still blooming along the Berg Lake trail last August. This is the Pad-leaved Orchis. It grows in woodlands, exactly where we found it, has two round and flat leaves that hugs the ground and a flower spike that is several feet tall, a rather impressive plant. These were starting to fade, but were still good enough to photograph. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2012/08/l...

One more shot of Platanthera orbiculata, the Pad-leaved Orchis. We found it in open forest near Kinney Lake, as well as along the trail below the lake. It is by far the showiest and has the largest flowers of all our Platantheras. When we photographed these they were past their prime, but there are other pictures of the species at the link below. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/03/p...

Here is another photo of the Pad-leaved Orchis, Platanthera orbiculata, in which the plate-like leaves can be seen, as well as the situation in which it grows, usually mossy and moist forest floors. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/03/p...
