Goose Butte and Crab Creek

We have been trying to get out hiking every week of the present quarantine and have looked for places to hike near our home. Most state and federal lands are closed but the Bureau of Land Management lands not. Often that land is leased for grazing or other activities. This was another BLM area we hiked two weeks ago. It was a nice enough walk and a beautiful day but the land was mostly cow pasture. We walked about six miles along Crab Creek and found a few pretty spots, this toward the end of the hike.

This was part of the area we hiked two weeks ago. We followed Crab Creek through an area that was mostly cow pasture, but had a pleasant walk on a beautiful day.

This was where we hiked two weeks ago. It was not the most exciting hike but we were outdoors and enjoying a good walk. The creek looks small and easily passable here but was in fact very deep and fast flowing and we did not attempt to cross it.

Abandoned Machinery

We found and photographed this old machinery near Goose Butte and an old homesteader's cabin. We thought maybe it was a threshing machine of some sort but could not tell for sure.

This homesteader's cabin was built near Crab Creek and Goose Butte around 1913 when several people settled in the area. The fence is there to keep out the cows. The area is under the authority of the Bureau of Land Management and is leased to ranchers for grazing. We hiked there two weeks ago, first along the ridge and then along the creek.
