We travelled to eastern Washington and back yesterday (Thursday, May 14) and drove through the town of Bridgeport looking for a place to get some lunch. We didn't find any lunch but found this instead. It was along the road in someone's front yard and appeared to have been carved from a dead tree that was still rooted in the ground. Whoever carved it has done a masterful job, both in portraying the salmon and in expressing the essence of their restless, migratory character.

Built in 1909, the Looff Carousel in Spokane's Riverfront Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and features 56 hand-carved wooden animals and two Chinese Dragon Chairs.
