Racehorse Falls

In Explore February 9, 2010, #374, but not picked up by Scout. Thanks to Boshaft for the information.
Saturday we hiked to Racehorse Falls just upstream from where the creek of the same name empties into the Nooksack River. The hike is a short scramble over downed trees and boulders, though it is a bit more difficult to get to the vantage point from which this picture was taken. I wanted to try some time exposures, but it was late in the day, the light was not very good and this was the best I could do. This was shot in RAW and processed with Canon's Digital Photo Professional.

The hike is a short scramble over downed trees and boulders, though it is a bit more difficult to get to the vantage point from which the second picture was taken. A time exposure taken while we were in Spokane visiting our handicapped son. I've been practicing time exposures every chance I get and this was the best, though nothing great, of the attempts at this location.

This was taken last Friday when we hiked up to Lake Serene in the mist. It was very difficult to get any time exposures under those conditions - this was the best I could do.

Last week Friday we hiked to Lake Serene at the foot of Mount Index in the area of Skykomish, Washington. These falls are on a popular side trail. There was a heavy mist and the falls were barely visible, but I went back later to get some better pictures. More pictures of the falls, the lake, and other things of interest can be found at: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/08/lake-serene...

Whatcom Falls

Whatcom Falls is in a park in Bellingham, the next town south of where we live. While our daughter and son-in-law were here we decided that because the day was overcast we would try to get some time exposures of the falls, giving him the opportunity to practice with his new Nikon. By the time we arrived, however, the sun was out, making it much more difficult to get good time exposures. This was the best I was able to do. His photostream can be found at: www.flickr.com/photos/scott_n_rose/
This was tweaked in PSE much more than I would usually do. Because of the extreme contrast I lightened the shadows and darkened the highlights and increased the saturation very slightly. I also removed one badly blown highlight on the left side of the falls and very slightly cropped the photo at the top and on one side.
