Again, this hawk was photographed near King's Canyon National Park and tentatively identified as a Red-tailed Hawk, though after looking again at the photos, I do not think it is that.

I had identified this as a Red-tailed Hawk but after looking at the photos again I do not think it is a Red-tail. I'll have to doing some searching later in the day and try to get a better ID. The bird was photographed near King's Canyon National Park in California. Later. After looking again, I'm inclined to identify this as a Ferruginous Hawk, Buteo regalis, and have changed the name on the photo. I am willing to be corrected, however, and hope someone knows better than I do.

This Red-tailed Hawk was photographed at Deception Pass on Pass Island. We were exploring the island from the bridge there, looking for the first spring wildflowers when the hawk landed in a nearby tree. He stayed there watching us for a long time before flying on.

This is another photo of the Cooper's Hawk I posted some time ago. The feathers are from a quail it had taken as the quail were scurrying for cover from under the bird feeders. In the photo the hawk is sitting on the dead quail and very shortly after flew away with it.

There's a story to go with this photo. We've recently put up bird feeders at our new home and we've had a flock of California Quail searching for food under the feeders. A few days ago they were scurrying back to cover and this hawk dropped out of the trees nearby and took one of them. In the photo some of the feathers of the quail are behind the hawk and he is sitting on the quail waiting for it to stop moving. When it did stop moving he flew away with it. The photo was taken from a window and so is not the best angle but with birds one takes what one can get.

Photographed this morning (April 1) in the Skagit Valley near the town of Edison, this is a Red-tailed Hawk. I was not certain but the ID was confirmed by a friend who is an expert on birds.

This photo was taken on the same Saturday excursion as the previous pictures. We were looking for eagles but this was almost as good as an eagle. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/02/eagle-watch...
