This Douglas C-47 Skytrain transport took part in the D-Day landings June 6, 1944. It was used to tow a paratroop glider to the landing areas. It was rescued in 2007 from an airfield in Bosnia and restored and painted in its original colors.

Taken in the unincorporated town of Douglas, Washington, across from the Douglas General Store pictured below. I assume these boxes represent the total number of families living in the town. In any case, we thought it a rather neat sutup and stopped for pictures.

Douglas is a small unincorporated community in eastern Washington along Highway 2 near the Columbia River. It has a general store, a church and a few houses, but if you blink you'll miss it. It is actually part of the town of Waterville, but even that town has a population of only 1000 people. The last time we were through that area we stopped to take a few pictures.

In Explore March 28, 2012, #86. This photo was taken on our way home from Spokane on the 23rd of March. We followed State Highway 2 across eastern Washington and then across the Cascades and over Stevens Pass. This is rather typical eastern Washington scenery. The area is mostly farm land but the older and smaller farms are gone and only the abandoned buildings remain. These buildings are between Coulee City and Waterville on Highway 2, not far from where the plateau drops off into the Columbia Gorge and with the Cascades in the distance. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/03/eastern-was...

This is another photo taken on our recent trip home from Spokane. I was intrigued by the lines and colors and tried numerous shots from this vantage point. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/03/eastern-was...
