Photographed in the Sonny Bono National Wildlife Refuge in southern California on the shores of the Salton Sea.

After traveling through Yakima and the Yakima Valley and spending some time at Brooks Memorial State Park we followed Highway 14 along the Columbia River to Catherine Creek where we did some hiking. Driving up to Catherine Creek we saw a Great Blue Heron at Rowland Lake. Several hours later when we left he was still there and displaying.

This Great Blue Heron displaying was seen at Rowland Lake along the Columbia River. We had been hiking in the Catherine Creek Natural Area and were on our way to Dog Mountain.

We were on our way to Catherine Creek Natural area to do some hiking and were passing Rowland Lake when this photo was taken. We would see him again as we drove away but then he would be displaying.

We photographed this heron in Stanley Park, Vancouver, while on a day's outing there. While watching and taking pictures, he suddenly snatched a large dragonfly out of the air and after holding it for a while, finally flipped it up and swallowed it.

In Explore January 24, 2012, #387. Taken on a recent visit to Bellingham. We spent some time while some of our children were here in Maritime Heritage Park and elsewhere in Bellingham taking photos. Here's another shot of the heron I posted yesterday. The photo was taken in a the Maritime Heritage Park where he appears to be a resident.

Photographed in Maritime Heritage Park in Bellingham, Washington. We had two good sunny days in a row and my son-in-law and I went to Bellingham to see what we could find to photograph. There wasn't much doing at this park or in the harbor, but we did get some pictures of this heron before he flew away.
