This was taken as we waited for moonset in Holland State Park on Lake Michigan. The lighthouse is known as Big Red but the green color comes from the light on the north pier across the channel (see inset photo). We did not actually see moonset because they closed the park and the moon had gone behind the clouds on the horizon.

This is the north light and north pier along the channel that connects Lake Michigan with Lake Macatawa in Holland State Park in Michigan. We were there to photograph the sunset and the moonset with the larger lighthouse on the south pier.

This is where I was Thursday evening. A friend and I went out to photograph the sunset and the setting moon in Holland State Park on Lake Michigan. We were on the north side of the channel that connects Lake Michigan to Lake Macatawa and the lighthouse on the south side of the channel, known as Big Red, was our main subject. So this is Big Red with the crescent moon still high in the sky, the sunset still with a good amount of color and several boats coming into the channel.

Big Red is on the south pier at Holland State Park in Michigan. We were in Michigan visiting family and went out one evening to the state park where our son and daughter-in-law were camping.

This is the north breakwater at Holland State Park in Michigan at sunset. The water in the great lakes is very high and while it used to be possible to walk out to the end of the breakwater or the pier on the other side of the channel, it is too dangerous at present.

This photo was taken in Ottawa Beach State Park, Holland, Michigan, where the shipping channel comes in from Lake Michigan to Lake Macatawa. The picture is of the old lighthouse at the end of the south pier of the shipping channel often referred to as "Big Red."
