The American Robin is a much larger bird than the European Robin and though there is a superficial resemblance in coloration they belong to different families, the European Robin a Flycatcher and the American Robin a Thrush. These are familiar birds all across North America and are often seen hopping across lawns and pulling earthworms from the ground.

Unlike the European Robin, the American Robin is really a kind of Thrush. This example was photographed in Millennium Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
