We live in an area of lakes and ponds and there are a lot of ducks and waterbirds in the spring and fall. Also known as a Mud Hen these American Coots are very common and usually stay all summer.

The American Coot, Fulica americana, is found all across North America. This bird was photographed at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, Vancouver.

I believe this is an immature American Coot, Fulica americana, but stand to be corrected. The photo was taken by my wife with her old Panasonic camera and is rather severely cropped. The photo was taken in the area of Medical Lake, Washington.
