RHH's photos with the keyword: strawberry pitaya

Our last campsite in Big Bend National Park was at Nine Point Draw. We drove there earlier in the day and wandered around the area for a while. We had intended to hike nearby but the weather was threatening rain. In the end we drove back to the Chisos Basin and hiked there. This is a fine specimen of the Strawberry Pitaya or Strawberry Hedgehog Cactus photographed along the Dagger Flat Auto Trail. The dagger-like plant behind it is Lechugilla another desert succulent and the bush is Manzanita or Chaparral.

I wish I could have seen these in bloom. They are Strawberry Pitaya cacti photographed in Big Bend National Park near Boquillas Canyon.
