I do not know the names of these peaks but they were photographed from the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big Bend National Park in Texas.

From the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big bend National Park we hiked up a nearby wash toward Ward Mountain. The flowering plant in the foreground is Spanish Dagger or Torrey Yucca.

The second full day of our trip to Big Bend National Park we followed the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive down to the Rio Grande, stopping at various locations along the way and doing some short hikes. This was one of the hikes, first to the Homer Wilson Ranch and then along the nearby wash toward Ward Mountain.

After we explored the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big Bend National Park, we hiked up the nearby wash so that my wife could look for rocks, one of her favorite occupations. She did not take any with her since that is illegal in the national parks but we had a nice meander toward Ward Mountain.

I believe this is Ward Mountain, one of the peaks in the Chisos Mountains of west Texas. The photo was taken from the wash near the Homer Wilson Ranch.

This is the kind og country we hiked through on our way to the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big Bend National Park. The ranch is an old and now-abandoned sheep ranch in the desert. The plants are Ocotillo, Chain Cholla and Sotol.

This was our destination on one of our hikes the second day of our stay in Big Bend National Park. We hiked to the Homer Wilson Ranch, a former sheep ranch that is now part of the park.

This was the inside of the Homer Wilson Ranch House in Big Bend National Park. We hiked down into the valley and explored the old buildings of the ranch, now abandoned and part of the park.

This is the front of the Homer Wilson Ranch House, now abandoned but once the home of a sheep rancher. The house looked well built and comfortable with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains but lonely. It was difficult to imagine anyone making a living off this desert land.

On the second full day of our stay in Big Bend National Park, we followed the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive along the west side of the park, stopping and hiking at various places. This was one of those places, the Homer Wilson Ranch, a former sheep ranch. We hiked down into the valley and explored the abandoned buildings of the old ranch. The photo was taken out the window of the house in which Mr. Wilson once lived and up the wash that runs near the house to Ward Mountain.

The Cane Cholla was a common cactus in Big Bend National Park and always a delight to see with its strange form and beautiful fruits. This example was photographed near the Homer Wilson Ranch when we hiked there.
