This was the sunset the night we camped at Ocotillo Grove on the southwest corner of Big Bend National Park. The sunset was a bit disappointing and this was the best photo I was able to get. We were camped at this location because we intended to go kayaking on the Rio Grande the next morning, though camping describes our situation only very broadly. We sleep in the back of our van when traveling using our backpacking sleeping bags and mats.

From the Homer Wilson Ranch in Big bend National Park we hiked up a nearby wash toward Ward Mountain. The flowering plant in the foreground is Spanish Dagger or Torrey Yucca.

If I've identified this Yucca correctly, then these are the flowers of the Torrey Yucca or Spanish Dagger, a plant that was just starting to bloom in Big Bend National Park when we there in February. The insets show the same plant and flowers.

This photo of Yucca flowers, the Torrey Yucca if I am not mistaken, were taken in Big Bend National Park near the Homer Wilson Ranch, a former sheep ranch along the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive.

Driving back into Big Bend National Park the second full day of our stay there, we stopped along the Old Maverick Road to photograph these Yucca which were just starting to bloom.
