When we found these plants at Aman Park in western Michigan we were not sure of their identity but later saw them in bloom elsewhere and realized they were a Phlox, we think Phlox divaricata, the Wild Blue Phlox.

I have a weakness for these tightly curled fern fronds and almost always stop to photograph them even though I have hundreds of photos of them. This one was photographed in Aman Park in western Michigan.
Dutchman's Breeches

We photographed these spring wildflowers in several Michigan parks, along with many others. They are one of my favorites because they do indeed resemble a up-side-down pair of old Dutchman's Breeches. The belong to the same family as the Bleeding Heart and as Squirrel Corn, shown in one of the insets.

Virginia Bluebells

When we visited Aman Park in Michigan the Virgina Bluebells were just beginning to bloom. We would have loved to see them in full bloom since the forest floor was carpeted with plants and buds but time did not permit.

Most of the flowers were not open when we saw these Virginia Bluebells in Aman Park in western Michigan, but there were thousands of plants carpeting the forest floor and I'm sure they would have made quite a show at full bloom.

Even the buds are beautiful on these Virginia Bluebells, photographed in Aman Park in western Michigan. The flowers would have made an even better show, however, and that we missed.

Early Buttercup

Not at all sure about the ID on this wildflower. Photographed in Aman Park in western Michigan, I did not have any resources with me when it was photographed and there are so many species of Buttercups that it would have been difficult in any case.
False Rue Anemone

When we were in Michigan late April and early May we visited a number of different parks and saw many a lot of wildflowers. This was photographed in Aman Park on the west side of Grand Rapids and I later identified it as False Rue Anemone, Enemion biternatum. Aman Park preserves a natural area along Sand Creek. It had rained there the previous day so many of the flowers had water drops on them as does this flower in one of the insets.

Large-flowered Trillium

These large-flowered Trilliums, Trillium grandiflorum, were in bloom in every park we visited in Michigan. We sometimes saw them covering the ground by the thousands. It would be hard to distinguish from our Western Trillium, Trillium ovatum, but seemed to have wider flower segments and leaves.
We are home again - arrived home about 8:00 last night. Spent four days driving home, two of them in Yellowstone National Park which had just opened. Did about 7,000 miles in all driving to Michigan and back and are very happy to be home. Now it's time to catch up everything that was neglected while we were away.

These Large-flowered Trilliums were at the peak of their bloom season when we were in Michigan recently. We found them, sometimes covering the forest floor, in every park we visited there.
