These last photos from Joshua Tree National Park are of the flowers of the Sacred Datura, an hallucinogenic but very dangerous plant. Also known as thorn apple, moon lily, moon flower, Indian apple, angel's trumpet, devil's trumpet, tolguacha, locoweed and Jimson weed. Especially its seeds and roots have been used by native tribes as an anesthetic and in religious ceremonies but numerous death have been reported and emergency room incidents are reported as high as 1000 a year.

I've added this to the group for Pam since she sent me seeds of a related species, Datura inoxia, that are planted and growing (I have no intention of testing its hallucinogenic properties).
