Hot Lake

Hot Lake is actually the name of this body of water and not a description of it. It is one of three small lakes at the far end of Firehole Lake Drive. The three are fed by hot springs and geysers and the water is very warm to hot. We are in San Antonio, Texas, after two long days of driving (2000 miles - 3200 km). Had some minor issues with the car so we drove through the night last night. Went to see the Alamo this afternoon and are checked into our guest house. We hope tomorrow to do the mission trail which follows the river and takes you to a series of old Spanish missions along the river. We may do it with bikes but may also go by car - we noticed today that the bikes did not seem to be available.

This is the runoff from Black Warrior Lake where it empties into Hot Lake. These two lakes, and a third, Firehole Lake, are at the far end of Firehole Lake Drive. The lakes are fed by hot springs and there are several geysers on Firehole Lake. The photo was taken from the boardwalk around Black Warrior.

Not far north of Midway Geyser Basin is a narrow one-way road, Firehole Lake Drive. Along that road are several important geothermal features including this geyser, White Dome Geyser. On another note, we are heading out for Texas in a few hours and my presence here will be sporadic and limited with no presence the next few days as far as I can see.

Great Fountain Geyser is found along the Firehole Lake Drive in Yellowstone National Park. The drive is a one-way side road on the lower west side of the park that leads to several important geothermal features. When the geyser erupts it erupts to a height of 200 feet (67 meters) but it erupts only every nine to twelve hours.
