We are heading north on the west side of the lower loop of the main road and are between the Upper Geyser Basin and the west entrance road. This is Midway Basin, which one reaches via a bridge over the Firehole River. The hot water pouring into the river is from Excelsior Spring, one of the main features of the basin. Midway is a small geyser basin but has one of the largest and most spectacular hot springs, Grand Prismatic Spring.

This is the last geyser basins in Yellowstone National Park that we'll be visiting in our tour of the park. Midway Basin is on the west side of the lower loop between Old Faithful and the west entrance. It is smaller but has some dramatic features. This is the runoff from Excelsior Geyser where one crosses the Firehole River from the parking area to the geyser basin.
