Triteleia grandiflora

These were photographed on Manastash Ridge (see previous posts) where they were growing in profusion. My wildflower book lists them as uncommon but they certainly were not in this location. They are also known as Brodieaea douglasii, the Large-flowered Brodiaea. They belong to the lily family, are perennial, grow to about a foot and a half in height and bloom in the spring.
A diary of our hike and many more pictures are here: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2011/05/manastash-r... .
Neofinetia falcata 'Gojyo Fukurin'

In Explore August 23, 2011, #477.
Neofinetia falcata is a well known miniature orchid, both because of its lovely long-spurred flowers and because of its beautiful Vanilla-like fragrance. Native to Japan, it is an orchid that has been extensively interbred by the Japanese, producing many unusual (and often expensive) varieties. This variety is typical in size and leaff shape but is known for its variegated foliage, green with creamy yellow margins, not visible here, but obvious in some of the other photos on my blog.
