RHH's photos with the keyword: heather

Photographed along the Harding Icefields trail in Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska, this is Arctic Bell Heather, I believe.

This is one of the species of heather that turns the hills and moors of the United Kingdom purple in autumn. A low growing plant, it is nevertheless, a standout among the other plants and mosses.

Not only were the earliest wildflowers starting to bloom but so was the heather when my son and I hiked the Chain Lakes trail near Mount Baker recently.

Taken after an ice storm last February, this photo is my wife's and shows how thickly everything was covered with ice after the storm.

This Pink Mountain Heather was still blooming here and there when Tim and I hiked the Lake Ann trail on a wet day. With a slight breeze and in dark conditions it was hard to get good close-up shots and I missed the depth of field a bit on this, but thought it still good enough to post. If you look closely you can see a Shield Bug hiding near the top of the first flower. I waited a bit for him to come out but he was having none of it.

Photographed along the Snowbird Pass trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia, this alpine Heather, Cassiope mertensiana, is one of the most beautiful wildflowers on the tundra.
