Edward and I spent several hours at the Northwest Washington Orchid Society show in Shoreline, Washington. We took a lot of pictures and enjoyed the beautiful flowers. Disas are a group of South African orchids that are very showy but considered very difficult to grow. There was a display of them at the show grown by a man from the Olympic Peninsula. This plant is a hybrid of Disa tripetaloides and Disa uniflora and has tall spikes of three inch flowers. It might be noted also that Disas are non-resupinate, that is, they hold their flowers with the lip uppermost, while most orchids twist around before opening so that the lip is at the bottom of the flower.
