Hoarfrost on Ponderosa Pine needles.

We noticed the frozen sap hanging on this cut branch of a Ponderosa as we were out walking and stopped to take photos. The branch had been cut because it was hanging over the lane where we were walking and interfered with traffic.

These are the needles of a Redwood. I would have expected such huge trees to have large needles and cones in proportion to the size of the tree, but both are tiny. Most of the foliage is far out of reach as well, but this was photographed on a younger tree in the Simpson-Reed Grove in jedediah Smith State Park.

Yesterday a grandson and I went snowshoeing at Mackenzie Conservation Area northeast of Spokane, Washington. We snowshoed to Newman Lake and back, stopping for lunch at Turtle Rock near the lake.

This is a scenic part of Route 87, the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway, in the area of the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore, South Dakota.
