These Snowberries, the fruits of a native shrub, were photographed on a hike to Newman Lake in eastern Washington with other family members. It has been a tough week. Our trip to Canada next month to see our grandchildren there had to be cancelled due to covid restrictions. We had a windstorm Wednesday that left us and many others without electricity and we are still without - maybe for another four or five days. We have a generator and have had that running for three days but can only run the refrigerator, a small heater and our phone chargers s from that. The storm also blew down a tree across the road and all the debris from that is piled in our front yard with little hope of it being removed soon.

Snowberries and Frost

Today's theme is Snowberries, photos of these berries taken at different times as winter closed in, this with frost on the berries. The Snowberry Bush is native to our area and to a large part of the United States and Canada. As far as I could find it is called "Snowberry" for the color of its berries, but could just as well be called that for the fact that its berries persist through the winter.

These Snowberries are living up to their name with their covering of snow. The berries of this native shrub persist well into the winter and we often find them covered with snow and ice.

These Snowberries, the berries of a native shrub, were photographed in November but before frost. The plants still had their leaves and the berries, too, were untouched by frost.
