Mountain Owl's Clover, Orthocarpus imbricatus, is a rare wildflower that grows in alpine or subalpine meadows. We had never seen if before last summer when we found it at the top of Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics. Though also found on Vancouver Island and in the mountains of Oregon and northern California, the Olympics are the only place it grows in Washington. It is not a large plant, less than a foot tall, and grows in fairly large clumps. The photo was taken by my wife who, as is so often the case, got a better photo than I did.
