Hardly recognizable as an orchid, this species belongs to a group of orchids called Pleurothallids, many of which grow at high elevations in Central and South America and all are from the New World. The species name here, canidentis, means "dog's tooth" and refers to the shape of the petals. The flower lies mostly flat at the base of a long heart-shaped leaf. The plant comes from Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia.
