This is tiny little flower, as most violets are. Photographed at Bonaparte Lake in north-central Washington, this is Viola macloskeyi.

Large-awned Sedge

This, I believe, i the Large-awned Sedge, Carex macrochaeta, listed here in Washington as sensitive and found only in Oregon and Washington in the United States. This example was photographed near Bonaparte Lake in eastern Washington. Sedges in the genus Carex have male flowers at the top of the flowering stem and female flowers below.

Or is it Mooses? Whatever you call two of them they were photographed in the area of Bonaparte Lake in eastern Washington. They were very wary and when we started to take pictures they quickly disappeared. They are the largest animals in the deer family and the second largest mammal in North America, second only to the bison. These are the subspecies known as Alces alces shirasi, the smallest of all the subspecies in North America
