Taken on a 2011 trip to Singapore and Malaysia. We stayed in Kuala Rompin, Pahang, for a conference and each morning I walked the beach to see the sunrise.

On our recent trip to Singapore and Malaysia, we spent four days at a resort near Rompin in Pahang, Malaysia, for a conference. This photo was taken early in the morning on one of my walks down the beach as the sun was rising. I had been watching the fisherman for some time and as he drifted closer to shore was able to get some decent pictures.

This was taken on the grounds of the conference center in Pahang where we stayed while in Malaysia. The picture is slightly overexposed, but I liked the effect. The ducks are Lesser Whistling Ducks, Dendrocygna javanica. Thanks to Barbol for the id.

Taken in the town of Mersing on our way home from the conference - lots of fishing boats going up and down the river.

Monkey

There was family of monkeys outside our window one morning, not something we experience in the States. I don't know what kind of monkeys they are and the picture is not the best, but thought I'd post it anyway. The monkeys did get into one of the rooms where the windows had not been closed and wreaked havoc with the owner's possessions.

Taken early one morning walking the beach while in Pahang, Malaysia, near Rompin, for a conference. I began walking while it was still dark and walked quite a few miles in a very isolated area, watching and taking pictures as the sky lightened and the sun rose.
Sensitive Plant

This, too, was photographed on the grounds of the conference center in Pahang. It is a low-growing, creeping plant, but I had no references and was not able to identify it at the time. Barbol has identified it as Mimosa pudica (probably) and the description of that species fits this exactly. Thanks for the id, but I'm a little disappointed that one of the few flowers I had opportunity to photograph turns out to be an invasive weed from South America!
