I believe these are Charlevoix Stones, a fossil coral we picked up along the shores of Lake Huron. We will probably polish some of them and use them for jewelry.

Petosky stones are fossilized coral that can be found along the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. They are the state stone of Michigan and are often made into jewelry. My wife, who picks up stones everywhere came home with a bag of them.

A piece of beached coral at Cape Tribulation, this was found as we wandered the beach between rain showers.

On our last day in Port Douglas and before traveling to Brisbane we went snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. We took a catamaran cruise out of Port Douglas to Low Island and snorkeled off the island. I rented a small underwater camera and though it was difficult to operate and did not keep its charge long (lesson learned: don't rent the cameras they have on the boat), we did manage to get some decent photos of the coral and the fish. I have not identified either fish or coral, but the snorkeling was one of the high points of the trip. Low Island is part of the inner reef and has not been seriously affected by the bleaching that is destroying much of the outer reef.
