One of the place we visited on our trip to Oregon this past summer was Cape Meares State Park with its lighthouse and cliffs.

I've posted several photos of Cape Meares, Oregon, and the lighthouse there, but from an earlier trip that we duplicated recently. This is the view south from the cape taken earlier in the day. We had traveled south from Cannon Beach, stopping for lunch at a seafood shack where I had razor clams and my wife had fish and chips.

This is the Cape Meares, Oregon, lighthouse, not very tall but that is not necessary since it is situated on a 200 foot high headland. We visited it in 2012 when this photo was taken and again this year.

This was the view to the north at Cape Meares, Oregon, when we visited in 2012. We were there again recently and since I had not posted many of these older photos, I thought I'd add a few.

The Cape Meares, Oregon, lighthouse is situated on a 200 foot headland above the ocean. We visited there on our recent trip through Washington, Oregon and northern California. In this photo I was trying to catch the setting sun through the glass of the light and did so even though the fog was rolling in.

Salal (Gaultheria shallon) is a small evergreen shrub belonging to the Heath family that is very common in the Pacific Northwest. It bears purple berries in autumn that were an important food to the native tribes and are still eaten by many and the leaves have been and are used medicinally.

Towards evening the first day on the Oregon coast we arrived in the evening at Cape Meares State Park and walked down to the lighthouse there before going on a little further south to watch the sunset at Oceanside Beach. Cape Meares is a small headland on the south end of Tillamook Bay, the lighthouse about 200 feet above the ocean.

This was the view to the west of Cape Meares when we visited there recently. We had come in the evening and the fog was creeping in but the sea stacks were still visible.

Cape Meares is at the south end of Tillamook Bay on the Oregon coast. The lighthouse has been inactive since 1963 and is now part of a state park and is accessible to the public. This photo was taken just as the sun went down and has the light of the sun shining through the old lens of the lighthouse. That is possible because the lighthouse is only 38 feet tall and as one walks down to it sees it from slightly above.
