Last Spring we traveled with our handiucapped son to Michigan so he could see his 92 year old grandfather. We spent a night in Rapid City, South Dakota, and had a little extra time to drive through Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We stopped in the canyon at Bridal Veil Falls to watch several ice climbers who were climbing the falls.

Spearfish Canyon is one of the attractions of the South Dakota Black Hills. It is a beautiful drive along Spearfish Creek from the town of Spearfish to Cheyenne Crossing. We were there last spring on the the way to Michigan just after a snowstorm.

Taken on a 2017 trip to the Black Hills with family members. I was recovering from surgery and was not much interested in hiking or photography but did take some photos here at Sylvan Lake and walked around the lake as well.

This is Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills of Custer State Park, South Dakota. There is a walk around the lake.

Mount Rushmore is, of course, the place everyone goes in the Black Hills, but not a place I care about. We went only for the sake of our family members who wanted to see it, but otherwise would not have bothered.

The Needles Highway is one of the scenic drives through the Black Hills of South Dakota and this photo was taken along that route.

While in the Black Hills of South Dakota we camped there with daughter and her family for a week and visited all the usual tourist spots. This is Sylkvan Lake, around which we hiked with everyone, an easy but beautiful hike.
